It’s about time

They’ve finally settled on the Australian screening rights for the new Doctor Who series. Took them long enough. There can’t have been a bidding war over it, otherwise surely the ABC would never have won. So what took them so long to negotiate the rights? It’s not as if they didn’t know about the new series more than 18 months ago. It’s one of the reasons they started rescreening the entire series to date, after all (except the Dalek stories, but that’s another kettle of legal wrangles).

They're not showing the dalek stories?

They weren't, up until about the middle of the Pertwee stories. I think they're in again now. I consture that it was all tied up with the legal wrangling with the estate of Terry Nation over the rights to use the daleks in the new series. The dalek stories started appearing again around about the time of the announcement that they had come to a licensing agreement.

ChrisT probably has a better idea about this than me, though.

My latest theory is the existing stories which do have a dalek but don't have a credit for Terry Nation are missing from the ABC line up. This can be most quickly be disproved by the omission of "Destiny of the Daleks" or the inclusion of "Five Doctors".
