Sick of being sick

I’m still sick. Fiona’s still sick. The Joey’s fine, but he’s pretty bored of having to hang around the house with a bunch of old sickies. I’m so sick of being sick that I’m ready to try Jenny’s probably-not-as-horrific-as-it-sounds cure (see comments from the previous post).

Probably among the worse things about being sick is that my tolerance for repetition of Wiggles songs is drastically reduced. I am listening to “Big Red Car” for probably the thirtieth time in the past fortnight, and I really don’t want to hear it again.

Might be time to start trying to engage the little feller’s interest in Pixar productions. I’m getting Monsters Inc off the shelf.

Snuffling

Spring has arrived, which means it’s time that the cold I spent all winter dodging successfully should take advantage of my complacency. Fi caught it first, and she’s been off work all week. I caught a less severe dose, thankfully, although it’s been bad enough that I have broken with normal tradition and actually consumed both cold/flu medication and throat lozenges. And gone to bed early most nights, to boot. What’s more, these habits have confounded all expectation and actually worked. Who knew?

One sad consequence is that it looks as though the dinner party Fi had organised for Saturday night may have to be postponed. It will depend on the guests’ risk tolerance with respect to viral exposure. Since the guests are all work colleagues, and a good dose of the flu amongst its managers could basically shut down the whole branch, a gathering at Plague Mansion should not be undertaken without all due consideration. But there will be five-spice duck, so there’s that to think about as well.

Either way, I must shop. Milk levels are critically low, and I’m going to need another coffee before I run a game tonight.

Update: Dinner party postponed as advertised. Fiona is still just as sick as she has been all week (and outraged that she should be so inconvenienced by a mere cold) and I’ve lost my voice as well this morning. I need to drink some of that honey and lemon gack.

Idle hands

Hrm. The new property has settled without incident, and I will take my bundle of tax homework in to the accountant for marking this afternoon (hoping for a gold star and a refund!)

For the first time in weeks I actually find myself with no serious responsibilities – other than day to day care of the Joey, of course. Which means, I suppose, that I should get back to concentrating on getting that short story finished, rather than blogcrastinating about it.
