My first every script, my first ever short film. So - what got me into the whole idea that I could make a short film? Actually, it was a discussion with my friend Evan. I had recently seen the film "Dating the Enemy", and was extremely dissatisfied with it. A quick synopsis - a couple are on the verge of breaking up and magically swap bodies, making them realise things about themselves and each other, at which point they swap back and reconcile.
A perfectly normal hollywood treatment, yes, but this *wasn't* a hollywood film, it was a semi-independant Australian production. My ire was raised. A plot festered in my mind for a different treatment for the same kind of film, the body-swap idea, but something serious and meaningful. Something very, very pretentious.
So, I was explaining this to Evan and he suggested that we make the film. For some reason, this approach hadn't occured to me before, and I took it up enthusiastically. We started writing the full length story, and the further we went, the more we realised that we wouldn't be able to film it. A full length film? Without any previous experience? There is no way in the world that we could do it justice.
I decided to write something quick-and-dirty so that the newly named otherleg productions could get off to a quick start, and so that when we finally do get around to filming our magnus opus, it won't be quite as laughably bad.
